Merit Badge Information
In
addition to the District Merit Badge Day, there are additional merit
badge opportunities for area scouts.
- Merit
badges are routinely offered at Council summer camps
- There
are at least two other merit badge events within a 1-2 hour drive of
Columbus
- There
are local organizations, e.g. COSI, AEP, Columbus Zoo that offer merit
badge programs in their areas of specialty.
Worthington
Scouts' merit badge page has
information about these other opportunities, but this information has
been a challenge to organize. Please browse the merit badge
page. It's random, but hopefully interesting and useful.
If you're looking for resources about a specific merit badge,
use the Merit Badge Index at left. Each merit badge has an
entry with
- Brief excerpts from the badge
requirements to give you some idea of what the badge is about
- A link to the complete/official
requirements for the badge at MeritBadge.org
- A list of any local
opportunities/advisors giving instruction in the particular merit badge.
At
this point, the index is far from complete. If
- You know of merit badge
instructions that should be included in the index
- Your troop or crew has an advisor
willing to
give a merit badge instruction to scouts from other units
please
drop me a note. I'll be happy to add your information
and/or corrections
to the index. -- AWM |
Configuration/Localization
The
index can be added to your
own website and localized with merit badge information appropriate for
your community or troop. Localization information is
contained in two XML files that can be hosted from your troop website.
The localization files are specified by user
preferences
that are set from this configuration
panel on the Google website:
| The XML
files contain entries that look like this: |
|
|
| and render like this: |
Camp Falling Rock Summer Camp
|
|
|
The
XML files can be in a password protected area. The index will still
work, but it won't display any resource information unless the reader
knows the proper passwords. The XML file used to add the
Worthington Community information can be downloaded from
