Camp
Wagons
Contrary to popular belief, the metal
wagons lined up in the public parking area are not supplied for the
amusement of tiger scouts, although tigers seem to enjoy them.
The camp rules do not permit cars past the public parking area except
in special circumstances.
You're supposed to use the metal wagons to pack your
equipment into the campsites. If you drive your car into the
campsites without making prior arrange- ments, the camp ranger may have
a pleasant chat with your tour leader (not recommended, at least for
the tour leader).
So pack light, leave the wide screen tv at home, and camp near the
parking lot.
If you're young at heart, but your knees feel like they're 70 years old
OR you're in
charge of a TON of program materials for a pack weekend, have your tour
leader CALL the
council office -- they'll be happy to work with you. (Sez
AWM, who is speaking from experience). |

Wagons
come in Blue, Red,
Yellow and Green.
Tigers come in infinite varieties.
See the SKC document,
Camp
Policies
for more information about
yellow wagons and other
rules and recommendations. |

From the introduction:
This
field guide was designed to help guide visitors through the amazing
ecology of the Camp Lazarus Area. It is designed to be easy
to use, and to help people of all skill levels identify pieces of our
environment. Along with lists of Animals, plants, and fungi at the
camp, there are also sections about the various ecosystems of the camp.
The guide is roughly
240 pages long and was published by the Simon
Kenton Council
Conservation Committee. 1st edition -- January
2006.
As of June, 2007, it is available through the Council office.
For
more information, contact a member of the Conservation
Committee. |

Directions to Camp Lazarus
To reach Camp Lazarus, follow
Route 23
north from Columbus towards
Delaware. Nine miles north of I-270 on the left side of the highway,
just north of the Delaware Area Career Center. Camp is two miles south
of Delaware. The road construction (summer 2007) is now complete
and the left turn into the East entrance from Hwy 23 is no longer a
potential life changing experience.
To get to the West Activity Field
or the Outpost Area,
turn onto
Winter St. from Rt. 23. Take Winter St. till it ends at
Chapman Rd. Turn right on to Chapman Rd. and look for the stone
pillars on your right by the creek for the entrance to either
area.

Don't Feed the Raccoons!
Raccoons are cute and clever. They love potato chips, candy,
and all the other junk
that scouts eat at camp (while Mom isn't around). |
 |
 |
If you keep chips or other food in your tent, you may wake up nose to
nose with a raccoon at 3:00 a.m. or have your tent trashed while you're
away.
Secure your food!
Don't keep it in your tent!
